The average price paid for white pan bread rose in November while the price for whole wheat bread fell, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 142c, up 0.6c per lb from October and up 3.8c from November 2013. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in November increased in two regions — up 11.2c in the Northeast and up 2c in the South — and fell in two regions — down 9c in the Midwest and down 5.7c in the West.
At 192.5c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was down 8c per lb from October and down 12.4c per lb from November 2013. At 192.5c per lb, it was the lowest monthly price since it was also 192.5c in December 2012.
The national average price of family flour in November was 51.5c per lb, up 1.4c from October but down 0.2c from November 2013.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in November was 124c per lb, down 2.1c from October and down 4.9c from November 2013. Chocolate chip cookies were 364.1c per lb, up 34.6c from October but down 14c from November 2013. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 71.7c per lb, down 0.6c from October and down 1.2c from November 2013.
