For years, Heinz ketchup bottles in Canada have featured a bizarre recipe suggestion that you would never even think to create. A Reddit user recently discovered this and shared it in a post, which then went viral.
While the idea of a ketchup cake doesn’t sound appealing, the internet community was willing to take on the challenge, including a man on YouTube named Greg Nuttle who posted a series of videos about the cake and how to make it.
The cake also includes ingredients flour, baking powder, baking soda, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, ground nutmeg, tomato ketchup, water, red food coloring, butter, dark brown sugar, eggs, cream cheese, vanilla, and icing sugar. The non-ketchup ingredients work to mask a bit of the ketchup flavor.
After tasting it, Nuttle and his friends determined that it was a perfectly acceptable cake, although one has to wonder whether ketchup is even necessary for the cake in the first place. But, Heinz vouches for it on its bottles, so there must be something to it.
