Running from September 17-23, the Smile Cookie fundraiser from Tim Hortons looked to benefit hospitals, charities, and community programs throughout Canada. The campaign was a huge success, as the restaurant chain was able to raise close to $7.8 million.
Customers at Tim Hortons restaurants were able to purchase special chocolate chunk cookies decorated with blue eyes and a pink smile for $1 (plus tax), with the full $1 going to the local communities of each restaurant.
“The Smile Cookie campaign highlights not just the power of a smile, but the amazing generosity of Canadians,” says Alex Macedo, President, Tim Hortons. “From the hard working team members who decorate each cookie by hand, to the guests we serve every day, to our charitable partners, we're so thankful that we are able to play a role in raising millions of dollars to make a real difference in communities across the country.”
The annual fundraiser began in 1996 as a way to help raise funds for the Hamilton Children's Hospital in Ontario. Since then, it has grown to a substantial nationwide initiative that has benefitted more than 500 charities, hospitals, and community programs.
