Uncle Mike's Bake Shoppe in De Pere, Wisconsin was recently named as the 2018 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin by Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce and Johnson Financial Group.
The contest, voted on by more than 175,000 people, highlights all of the interesting and unique items made throughout the state. Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe was able to beat more than 160 entrants with its Sea Salt Caramel Pecan Kringle.
The bakery’s kringle is quite popular around the state. It also ships nationally, so the award-winning product is sure to increase in orders following the big announcement. Kringle has quite a history at Uncle Mike’s, as the bakery has been perfecting the recipe, first formulated by Danish bakers in the 1800’s, for decades.
With the support of voters across the state, Uncle Mike’s Bake Shoppe was able to beat out several multinational companies like John Deere, Oshkosh Corp., Komatsu, and Generac Power Systems to win the award. “Thank you to everyone who voted for us,” says owner Mike Vande Walle. “It really took the whole community to win this award.”
