Bagels have long had to share their special day with pizza. Both National Bagel Day and National Pizza Day have taken place on February 9, but no longer, as National Bagel Day has been moved up to January 15.
The new date was officially registered by Thomas’ Bagels, a brand of English muffins and bagels owned by Bimbo Bakeries USA, in Chase's Calendar of Events, a comprehensive and authoritative reference on special events, holidays, federal and state observances, historic anniversaries, and more.
“Choosing between celebrating bagels and pizza felt like a decision that no carb-lover should ever have to make,” says Richard Link, Senior Marketing Director of Thomas’ Bagels. “We felt it was our duty to bagel lovers everywhere to 'toast' up a celebration that's anything but plain! We're grateful to our fans for rallying behind this decision and to Chase's Calendar of Events for certifying January 15 as our official date. We look forward to making this the best National Bagel Day yet.”
Thomas’ will celebrate National Bagel Day in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in a big way. There will be a larger-than-life Thomas’ toaster that guests can “pop” out of to capture their ultimate National Bagel Day memory, and a giant bagel wall where they can take photos.
Additionally, the brand will give away free bagels for a year to a select group of lucky fans on its Facebook page on Tuesday, January 15.
