Nielsen-Massey Vanillas, a manufacturer of some of the finest extracts in the world, sees big opportunity in the coming year. As the market for vanilla stabilizes, the company has looked to introduce new products, expand its retail presence, and bolster its e-commerce presence.

Nielsen-Massey has examined consumer trends and demands to dictate the new products it has introduced in 2018 and will introduce in 2019, all of which are sustainable (the company is a founding member of the Sustainable Vanilla Initiative), all-natural, allergen-free, certified GMO-free (its vanillas and flavors recently received official recognition from the Non-GMO Project), kosher, and gluten-free.

In June 2018, the company debuted its Pure Lemon Paste. The company’s first pure flavor paste was launched in response to the popularity of its vanilla bean pastes and adds citrus flavor to a variety of recipes as a glaze, frosting, or mixture.

Following that in November was the Tahitian Pure Vanilla Bean Paste. It was the third of Nielsen-Massey’s popular line of vanilla bean pastes including Madagascar Bourbon Pure Vanilla Bean Paste and Pure Vanilla Bean Paste. It showcases a floral, fruity flavor that enables chefs to add vanilla flavor without thinning out batters or sauces.

In January 2019, the company became the first brand to offer five distinct, single-origin pure vanilla extracts from Tahiti, Mexico, Madagascar, Uganda, and Indonesia. The Ugandan and Indonesian Pure Vanilla Extracts have been available to industrial customers, but for the first time will be available as part of the company’s retail and foodservice lines. Both extracts were launched at the 2019 Winter Fancy Food Show.

These products have helped the company to expand its retail presence. Additionally, Nielsen-Massey has bolstered its e-commerce presence with its Amazon e-home shopping page.
