National Hot Chocolate Day arrives on Thursday, January 31, and one New York City bar is looking to make a big impact on customers starting that day with the help of a local pastry chef.
Rooftop bar and lounge PHD Terrace at Dream Midtown is introducing a massive, 20-pound spiked hot chocolate on National Hot Chocolate Day. The behemoth beverage was created by pastry chef consultant Paola Marocchi.
It features Valrhona’s extra bitter 61% chocolate mixed with Jivara milk 40% chocolate, and is topped with charred giant marshmallows, cinnamon sticks, homemade whipped cream, and spicy cocoa powder. It can be spiked with one of four liquors: tequila (Casamigos Añejo), mescal (Ilegal Reposado), cognac (Hennessy VS), or whiskey (Woodford Reserve).
The hot chocolate will be available at PHD Terrace from January 31 until Valentine’s Day on February 14. It costs $375, but guests are encouraged to split it amongst 22 people for a total of just over $17 per person.
