Littleton, New Hampshire may be a small town with a population of just under 6,000, but it is home to something that is the biggest of its kind in the world. Candy store Chutters features a world record for the longest candy counter at 112 feet.
The counter is lined with more than 500 candy jars featuring everything from 70 flavors of jelly beans to 170 varieties of nut clusters and caramels. This candy utopia also leans on the nostalgia, appealing to both children and adults.
Chutters has been a presence on Littleton’s Main Street since the late 1800’s. It has become a point of pride for residents there, and a major tourist attraction for the area. Chutters is named for its original owner, Frederick George Chutter, a Congregational minister who came to Littleton to preach, but eventually opened a dry goods business.
While the Chutters of today doesn’t have many of the goods that the Chutters of back then offered, it does sell items besides candy. New Hampshire souvenirs, Yankee Candles, Christmas tree ornaments, and other trinkets are available for visitors.
