The Patriots’ Day holiday (commemorating the first battles of the American Revolutionary War) and the Boston marathon tradition that goes along with it will take place on Monday, April 15. On that day only, the Friendly’s restaurant chain will offer a special patriotic dessert.
At select locations on Patriots’ Day, Friendly’s will debut a 26.2 oz sundae (the size honors the 26.2 miles of a marathon) decked out in red, white, and blue. The mountainous dessert features 6 scoops of vanilla and strawberry ice cream topped with blue icing, marshmallows, strawberries, cubes of moist pound cake, whipped cream, and a cherry.
“Patriots’ Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the wonderful traditions that bring us together as a community and cheer on our collective strength and spirit,” says Dennis Pfaff, FIC Restaurants Inc., Chief Operating Officer. “This special sundae is a lighthearted – if not lightweight – nod to the sweet satisfaction of taking on life’s challenges and pulling for each other to reach the finish.”
The Patriots Sundae will be available at select Massachusetts Friendly’s locations for $9.99. Boston Marathon runners are invited to enjoy a free medium sundae by showing their official marathon race bibs at participating locations from Monday, April 15 through Friday, April 19.
