This fall, the American Quilter’s Society (AQS) will celebrate its 35th anniversary at the Fall QuiltWeek Show in Paducah, Kentucky. The largest quilting membership organization in the world is celebrating in a big way, with help from the famed Carlo’s Bakery.
Mauro Castano of Carlo’s Bakery, featured on TLC’s Cake Boss, will design and present the AQS 35th Anniversary Quilt Cake Sponsored by Janome at the show happening on September 11-14. It will be four feet by eight feet and will a sewing machine, scissors and a toolbox all laid on top of a sheet cake designed to resemble a quilt.
AQS wants people to get in on the fun by helping to design the cake. Participants can submit an entry by picking up a copy of the July issue of American Quilter magazine or by printing the free download and guidelines. Castano will be judging the design contest at Paducah QuiltWeek and the winner will receive a one-on-one lesson with him at Carlo’s Bakery in Hoboken, New Jersey.
“We are hosting this anniversary celebration as a way to thank everyone who has supported AQS over the years to become the world’s largest quilting membership organization,” says Meredith Schroeder, President and Founder of AQS. “We are thrilled to have Mauro Castano in Paducah to help us celebrate this milestone and we hope everyone takes part in the fun by drawing their own exciting quilt-themed cake in our adult coloring contest.”
