The AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Maya is an ultra-luxury all-inclusive resort set on 206 acres of jungle and mangroves near the Riviera Maya coastline in Mexico. The resort is known for a lot of things, but one of the most delicious is its churro cakes.
These indulgent desserts consist of individual churros that can be customized. Fillings range from cajeta (a dulce de leche of thickened syrup made with sweetened caramelized goat’s milk), lechera (a sweetened, condensed milk) and chocolate to pastry cream, marmalade, and Nutella.
Each of the churros that make up the cake are rolled in cinnamon to find a sweet balance with the slight saltiness of the fried dough. The churro cake can be topped with almost any flavor upon request, including local flavors like mango, hibiscus, and citrus. Each cake costs $450 for a size that feeds up to 50 people.
The Grand Velas Riviera Maya also offers a margarita cake menu. Nontraditional flavors like chili mango, lime, passion fruit, and tamarind are topped with frosting made with a touch of tequila or Cointreau. The cakes can also be paired with mini-margaritas as a unique dessert finale for wedding receptions and other large events.
