Merritt’s Bakery opened in 1979 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The bakery has been a big part of the community in its four decades of business since then, and it’s looking to honor a couple that ordered a cake from there as part of its anniversary celebration.

The bakery is making a call for a couple who had a wedding cake made at Merritt’s Bakery during its first year in business, 1979-1980. Couples are encouraged to send the bakery a picture of the wedding cake on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter in order to enter to win a free anniversary cake.

Merritt’s will announce a winner during the week of its own anniversary, the first week of September. The bakery will also give away a prize each week for the next year on their social media pages, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Larry and Bobbie Merritt first purchased the shop on September 1, 1979, when it was known as The Cake Box. In the years that followed, the bakery became known as Merritt’s Cake Box, and then finally to just Merritt’s Bakery. Today, the bakery has three locations in the Tulsa area.
