Consumer data shows that plant-based foods have staying power on menus. That is reinforced by the latest findings from Grubhub, which recently released its annual food trend report.
The leading online and mobile food-ordering and delivery marketplace analyzed tens of millions of orders placed by more than 21 million diners on its platform to uncover the flavors and tastes rising up the ranks. The biggest takeaway is that a majority of 2019’s top foods were comprised of vegetarian- or vegan-friendly options.
The top orders of the year through Grubhub are:
- Cauliflower pizza: Rising 650% throughout the year
- Spicy brussel sprouts: 622%
- Portobello empanada: 601%
- Black bean & sweet potato taco: 513%
- Miso pork ramen: 413%
- Chicken burger: 318%
- Bone broth: 298%
- Brown sugar milk [bubble] tea: 281%
- Vegan pad thai: 280%
- Impossible burger: 203%
Cauliflower is leading the charge, and with cauliflower dishes taking the top spot this year and two of the top ten in 2018, is indicative of a sustained trend. Other trends that are on the rise include celery juice, oat milk, and street corn.
