The first “big” innovation of the year for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is a small one. On Monday, January 6, the company launched miniature versions of its popular doughnuts that are less than 100 calories each.
With many Americans beginning diet plans as part of their New Year’s resolutions, these treats can be enjoyed on their “cheat days” while giving them less guilt about the calorie count.
The mini doughnuts come in Krispy Kreme’s four most popular doughnuts: Original Glazed, Chocolate Iced Glazed, Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles, and Strawberry Iced with Sprinkles.
“Too many people bail on their New Year’s resolutions before they are even halfway through January. That’s no good. Sometimes a mini-indulgence, or cheat, is all you need to help you stick with it. So, we miniaturized our most popular doughnuts. A little Krispy Kreme goes a long way,” says Dave Skena, Chief Marketing Officer for Krispy Kreme.
To reward people for sticking to their goals, participating Krispy Kreme locations will host “Mini Mondays” – mini happy hours from 4 to 7 p.m. each Monday in January where each guest will receive one free mini doughnut of their choice.
