Just two weeks after closing up shop temporarily due to the ongoing economic hardship from the coronavirus outbreak, Dayton, Ohio’s Ashley’s Pastry Shop has announced that it is re-opening on Tuesday, April 7 with additional safeguards in place to protect customers and employees.

“My decision to close until April 6 was to support the governor's first stay-at-home order while allowing us the time to set up procedures when we re-open that would allow for the safest shopping experience for our customers and staff,” owner Theresa Hammons tells Dayton Daily News. “We feel we have done that and will follow those procedures and precautions set forth.”

While Ohio has extended its stay-at-home order until May 1, bakeries and other foodservice establishments are considered “essential services” and may continue offering delivery, carryout and curbside pickup. According to Ashley’s Pastry Shop, there will be a limit of two customers in the store at a time and there will be social distancing markers both inside and outside the store.

Ashley’s Pastry Shop, which opened in 1982, is a staple of the Dayton community. It serves donuts, Danishes, cakes, cookies, muffins, breads and much more. One of the bakery’s specialties is its Sand Tart cookies. They are a favorite of Academy Award-winning actress and Dayton native Allison Janney.
