In honor of National Doughnut Day on Friday, June 5, New York City’s Dough Doughnuts is launching a vegan doughnut for the first time.
The new vegan doughnut, which took ten months for the shop to perfect, will come in three flavors: plain, cinnamon and hibiscus. The doughnut flavors will make their debut just prior to National Doughnut Day.
They will be available at Dough’s Flatiron location (14 W. 19th St) in New York City and via delivery throughout Manhattan (Grubhub, Uber Eats, DoorDash, Caviar) starting Wednesday, June 3.
The vegan doughnut took a long time to develop and taste test because Dough wanted it to taste like the original, and not being able to use eggs or dairy made for a challenge. Dough culinary director Bethany Costello gave the vegan doughnut a five-sided shape versus the typical round so there is no mix-up.
