Stan's Donuts & Coffee had planned to celebrate National Donut Day on Friday, June 5 like always. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Chicago donut and coffee institution made the decision to postpone its celebration out of respect and caution.
Now, the National Donut Day celebration will take place over an entire weekend, on Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28, coinciding with the proposed first day of the Phase 4 reopening of Chicagoland restaurants, just a few days after the start of summer.
“We want to be respectful and we want to host a celebration for everyone – one that feels safe, comfortable and joyous,” says Rich Labriola, chief doughboy at Stan’s. “In light of this very painful time for our beloved city and our country, we have ultimately made the decision to postpone the celebration of National Donut Day.”
During its first-ever Donut Weekend, Stan’s will offer guests a free glazed cake donut with any purchase. Stan’s will also offer specially-priced assortments, such as a $10 half dozen of glazed donuts; a $20 dozen of Stan’s classics, including chocolate cake and strawberry glazed donuts; and a $30 Doughboy’s Best Assortment of twelve of Stan’s most beloved flavors including the Nutella pocket and lemon pistachio old fashioned.
“We are firm believers in something as wonderful as a donut,” adds Labriola. “The extended holiday means more free donuts for more smiles, but it also will allow Stan’s to ensure everyone can come together safely and enjoy this special celebration. We look forward to bringing joy to our wonderful city during this tough time and to celebrate a day that is special in our hearts.”
