Bethel Park, Pennsylvania’s Bethel Bakery is partnering with nearby Spoonwood Brewing Company for its latest beer, a summertime flavor based on the bakery's cake.
The two businesses’ fourth team-up has resulted in the lemony, cake-infused Lemon Glaze Ale, a creme ale brewed with malted barley, oats, milk sugar, Bethel Bakery yellow cake and lemon puree. The beer is now available at the brewery by the pint for $6.50 and in three growler sizes — 19.2, 32 and 64 ounces. Cans will also be available starting July 8.
Bethel Bakery pastry chef Kayla Milliron and Spoonwood brewer and part owner Steve Ilnicki have been working together since January of last year.
“They are just so easy to work with,” Milliron says about Bethel Bakery. “We share ideas and respect one another’s businesses. It’s been smooth sailing for all of the collaborations.”
The beer is based on Bethel Bakery’s glazed lemon cream cake, which the bakery plans to sell through the end of August. Slices were made available at the beer’s launch on Tuesday, June 30.
