Mancini’s Bakery in McKees Rock, Pennsylvania is presenting a Christmas tree unlike any other this holiday season, one that it technically edible.
The bakery created its tree completely out of bread, which is on display right now outside the store. Co-owner Nick Mancini Hartner has come up with different bread displays over the years, but nothing quite like this.
“We actually baked this two days ago. We let it dry out completely so it would be a little more structurally sound when we elevated it into a vertical position,” he tells CBS Pittsburgh. “This is brand new territory. I’ve never made anything this big before.”
The family bakery bakes more than 10,000 loaves per day with a team of dozens, using many of the same old-world techniques practiced by founder James Mancini nearly 100 years ago.
