Confections of a Rockstar Bakery in Asbury Park, New Jersey is rock n’ roll themed, using desserts as a way to honor rockstars such as Elvis Presley and The Beatles.
Owner Kimmee Masi has a background in both rock n’ roll and bakeries. Her father, Vinnie, ran Vincent's Cookie Cupboard in Freehold, New Jersey when Kimmee was young, and she learned baking techniques from him. Vinnie also gave Kimmee her first drum set, which inspired her to become a drummer.
Masi has pursued both her passions, and the rock n’ roll lifestyle has bled over into her baking. Confections of a Rockstar names its pastries and cupcakes after famous musicians, and the aesthetics of the business reflect the lifestyle.
With Labor Day festivities upon us, and with more celebrations throughout September and the rest of the year, Masi offers some tips for creating decadent desserts.
Reese’s PB Cheesecake
“Grab yourself some peanut butter cookies and Reese’s Peanut Butter cups. Use the cookie for the base, add your PB cups to a cheesecake batter, bake, let cool, add your peanut butter of preference to the top with a drizzle of chocolate and garnish with a Reese’s Cup.”
Cinnamon Bun
“Use a graham cracker mixture for the crust. We add our in-house cinnamon buns and cinnamon sugar to a cheesecake batter (can be done with any cheesecake batter). Use cinnamon/sugar on top and then bake. We add a bit more cinnamon/sugar, then brulee the top and add a mini cinnamon bun cookie.”
S’mores Brownie
“You can take your favorite brownie mix, add a layer of graham cracker crust to the bottom, mix in chunks of chocolate and marshmallows and then bake. Add fudge frosting and garnish with a graham cracker, chocolate bar and marshmallow.”
