With over a million people having fled their homes in Ukraine as conflict in the country continues, the Ukrainian Red Cross is vowing continued support for the most vulnerable. To help out the situation, the Wisconsin Bakers Association (WBA) has announced that it will donate proceeds from a campaign called Pi for Peace to the Ukrainian Red Cross.
On March 14 (3/14 or 3.14), also known as Pi Day, the Association’s goal is to raise money for the Red Cross of Ukraine with each participating bakery selling 314 pies by or on Pi Day. The fundraiser is not limited to pies either – the circumference divided by the diameter of a circle is always Pi π (3.14) no matter how large or small the circle is, so any product that is a circle shape would work for each bakery.
Each bakery will also decide on their own what percentage they’d like to donate from those 314 pies that are sold. For example, a bakery could donate one dollar from every pie sold or even $3.14. The Wisconsin Bakers Foundation will gather those donations to send to the Ukrainian Red Cross.
Bakeries that would like to participate in the fundraiser can complete the Pi for Peace signup form letting the Wisconsin Bakers Association know they intend to participate in Pi for Peace. The WBA will compile a list of all participating bakeries along with specials offered.
Donations can be sent to Wisconsin Bakers Foundation c/o Pi for Peace at PO Box 658, Muskego, WI 53150 or online. All donations are tax deductible.
