Kanira, a new line of breakfast biscuits that features bold, bright, spice-forward flavors with nourishing, climate-smart grains native to South Asia, is the first South Asian American product to hit the better-for-you breakfast category.
Founder Vishal Ramakrishnan is on a mission to bring heritage-driven products to the “better for you” foods industry through heritage-driven flavors and ingredients. As a consultant on the go, Vishal wanted to create a ready-made breakfast that was not only high in nutritional value but offered a more diverse flavor options.
To create Kanira, Vishal was inspired by the common morning ritual in South Asian households: fueling up with biscuits and tea. Kanira’s biscuits double in flavor and nutritional value thanks to an assortment of aromatic and antioxidant-rich spices like cinnamon, cardamom and nutmeg. Savory notes include turmeric and black pepper, rich in nutritional value. Most noteworthy, the central ingredient in each biscuit is pearl millet - a drought resistant grain native to India and rich in prebiotic fiber, protein and iron, and essential vitamins and minerals providing long lasting energy, sustenance and gut health support.
Kanira, which translates to ‘grain’ in Sanskrit, features pearl millet sourced from smallholder farmers in Rajasthan as its leading ingredient. This ancient grain native to India is a climate smart crop, with the ability to withstand drought-like conditions and hot temperatures.
Each serving size of five biscuits is packed with four grams of protein, four grams of fiber and only six grams of sugar and is naturally vegan, gluten-free and void of refined sugar, artificial flavors and preservatives.
