Last year, the Wisconsin Bakers Association (WBA) and its Wisconsin Bakers Foundation began a statewide initiative to help the people of Ukraine who fled their homes as conflict in the country continued. On March 14, otherwise known as Pi Day (3/14, or 3.14), bakers throughout the state came together and raised funds for the Salvation Army to help support the people of Ukraine.
With the initial campaign being such a success, the WBA, its Foundation and bakers across the state have decided to continue the Pi Day tradition going forward. This year, the World Central Kitchen has been selected to receive the funds raised, using it to provide food throughout the world. The organization is currently focusing on the after effects of the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, but wherever there is a global emergency it is helping to cook for people.
Each baker can make his or her own decision of what amount of proceeds would go to the organization, selling whatever items possible. Bakers who would like to help with raising funds can complete a signup form letting the Foundation know their intention to participate in Pi for People. The WBA will compile a list of all participating bakeries along with specials offered.
Anybody willing to help can send donations to Wisconsin Bakers Foundation c/o Pi for People at PO Box 658, Muskego, WI 53150 or online. All donations are tax deductible.
