One year ago, Netflix’s Iron Chef: Quest for an Iron Legend challenge winner Claudette Zepeda partnered with bakery chain Sprinkles to release a limited-edition La Gloria cupcake that brought national recognition and honor to Mexican desserts. The cupcake was the bakery’s final iteration of the 2022 Female Chef Series – a collection of desserts from leading women in the culinary industry.
The cupcake not only topped the charts as a best-selling limited edition flavor but the reception from the Hispanic community was unparalleled. Sprinkles has announced that it will team up with Zepeda to once again offer La Gloria, bringing greater visibility and honor to Hispanic culture and food traditions in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 4 through October 1).
To further support the Latin community, Sprinkles is making a donation to the Hispanic Heritage Foundation.
The cupcake is a decadent caramel cake studded with pecans, filled with dulce de leche, topped with a salted caramel frosting and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. It was inspired by Glorias, a traditional milk caramel candy originating from Northern Mexico, that Zepeda grew up eating straight from her grandma's purse
Growing up in Mexico, Zepeda spent days rounding up as many coins as possible to buy a gloria at the bodega or curled at her grandma's side enjoying one together. She approaches her pastry-making with permission to be childlike and whimsical and to evoke the sweet moments in her childhood.
