The average price paid for white pan bread decreased while the price for whole wheat bread increased in February, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor. In January, the retail prices moved in opposite directions, with the price of white pan bread increasing and the price of whole wheat bread decreasing.
The national average retail price of white pan bread was 145.5c, down 4.4c per lb from January but up 4.7c from February 2014. On a month-to-month basis, the average price for white pan bread in February increased in two regions — up 2.6c in the Midwest and up 1.6c in the South — and fell in two regions — down 14.6c in the Northeast and down 1.4c in the West.
At 202.4c per lb, the national average price for whole wheat bread was up 7.6c per lb from January but down 4.4c per lb from February 2014.
The national average price of family flour in February was 52.5c per lb, down 2c from January and down 3c from February 2014.
The national average price for spaghetti and macaroni in February was 131.9c per lb, up 5.5c from January and up 5.4c from February 2014. Chocolate chip cookies were 347.7c per lb, up 4.9c from January and up 14.8c from February 2014. The national average price of white long-grain rice was 68.9c per lb, down 0.3c from January and down 4.3c from February 2014.
