The popular bakery and café Porto’s has expanded to Orange County, California after finding success in its Burbank, Glendale, and Downey locations.
On Wednesday, March 1, Porto’s opened its fourth location in Buena Park to great fanfare. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the new 25,000-square-foot store at around 10 a.m. with actor Andy Garcia present, and the eatery opened right after.
Porto’s serves thousands of customers and employs hundreds of team members in Southern California. Lines are incredibly long at all locations, and the same is expected in Orange County.
In 2016, the Burbank location was #1 on Yelp’s list of the top 100 places to eat in the United States.
The Porto family emigrated from Cuba in 1960. With strong work ethic and baking skills, they opened a bakery in Los Angeles. The children (Betty, Margarita, and Raul Jr.) continue to run the Porto’s brand to this day.
The bakery excels at many baked goods, but one its best sellers is the Milk ’N Berries cake — a twist on a classic Tres Leches but more indulgent, filled with fresh berries and iced with whipped cream. Buzzfeed recently described it as a "flavor explosion".
According to Raul Jr., 99% of the interior of the new location was designed and constructed in Italy by Costa Group. A video showcasing the bakery, which is a true marvel to observe, can be seen here.
