Master pastry chefs, well-known California “sugar artists,” talented local bakers, amateur decorators, and those who enjoy beautiful sugar art of all kinds will come together for the 34th Annual San Diego “Confections for a Cause” Cake Show, March 18th and 19th, at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
The annual two-day event is presented by the San Diego Cake Club and features a cake design competition open to everyone, a variety of decorating classes for all skill levels, skills and decorating demonstrations, plus raffles and vendor booths featuring a wide range of decorating tools, tips, and supplies.
This year, the theme of the Cake Show takes inspiration from another popular San Diego event, Comic-Con. They're calling this year's event 'Comic-Cake'. The Wish You Were Here cake design competition will involve the theme, as competitors will need to incorporate it into their original pieces of sugar art. The designs are only as limited as the entrants’ imaginations, and can involve such categories as anime, pop culture, and anything else related to Comic-Con.
The San Diego Cake Show, otherwise known as “Confections for a Cause,” is more than just a cake show. It also raises money for a great cause, as portions of the proceeds for the event will go to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charity of San Diego.
