Major League Eating will be hosting its World Donut Eating Championship in Santa Monica, California on National Donut Day.
Sponsored by The Salvation Army, this contest will feature some of the best eaters in the world such as hot dog champion Joey Chestnut competing for $2,000 in prize money. While that amount may seem low for a major contest, proceeds from the event will raise money for military veterans in and around Southern California.
Established in 1938, National Donut Day commemorates Salvation Army volunteers who brought donuts to thousands of soldiers during World War I. On June 2, we recognize those individuals along with the delicious treat they supplied. Communities across the country will hold celebrations and donut shops will provide special deals to customers.
The Major League Eating World Donut Eating Championship will take place Friday, June 2 at Santa Monica Place, a shopping mall in Santa Monica, California.
