La Mascota, a bakery located in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of LA, will recognize its 65th year with a celebration this weekend.
The bakery has been in business since 1952, going through an ownership change in 2015 after the same family had run it since its opening. The new owners, Frank and Patty Aparicio, have maintained what made La Mascota successful – including its famous recipes and low prices.
On July 28-30, the owners will welcome visitors with a weekend-long party. Mini tamales and pan dulce will be given to those in attendance. In addition, the bakery will feature these specials and events:
Friday, July 28
65-cent tamales (Limit one dozen, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.)
Mariachi music (9-11 a.m.)
Saturday, July 29
Ballet Folklorico Boyle Heights (10 a.m.-noon)
Sunday, July 30
Live mariachi music (8:30-10:30 p.m.)
