The American Society of Baking (ASB) named student teams from Ohio State University, Purdue University, Kansas State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison as finalists in this year’s ASB Product Development Competition.
The annual competition offers scholarships and an industry spotlight to college students across the country. Entries must consist of a proposal for a new bakery food product. This year’s competition is focused on futuristic sweet goods. The finalists will compete in the final round of the competition on February 26-27, 2018 at BakingTech in Chicago.
Judges will be evaluating the potential success of product entries in today's market and technical problem-solving skills used in product development.
“These outstanding finalists will present their original products at A.S.B.’s Best Week in Baking event,” says Kent Van Amburg, executive director of the ASB. “The ASB Product Development Competition is an extraordinary way for the baking industry to discover and help launch the careers of exceptional individuals.”
Finalists are competing for $20,000 in scholarships. First prize gets a $2,000 scholarship for each team member, second prize gets a $1,500 scholarship for each team member, third prize gets $1,000 scholarship for each team member, and fourth prize gets a $500 scholarship for each team member
