Bakeries are a big draw for tourists in almost any country around the world. Visitors can be seen enjoying delicious treats in these establishments as part of their itineraries.
According to TripAdvisor, one bakery had more reviews than any other bakery globally. Pastéis de Belém in Portugal's capital city of Lisbon received well over 10,000 reviews posted by travelers between October 2016 and October 2017, with most of its 33,324 reviews containing an “Excellent” rating.
The bakery is known for its Pastel de Nata, aka the Portuguese custard tart. This delicacy and other baked goods have been sold at Pastéis de Belém for over 180 years.
During peak season, the bakery sees incredibly long lines, but the wait is well worth it. Pastéis de Belém has been described as “an experience not to be missed,” and “a must do,” thanks to its “egg tarts from heaven.”
