On April 27-29, thousands will descend upon Miami for South Florida’s biggest cake show. The SoFlo Cake and Candy Expo promises to be one of the most dynamic and engaging events for cake and candy industry professionals, enthusiasts, and hobby bakers.
One of the key features of the eventful weekend is the Wedding Cake, Sculpted Theme Cake, Non-Cake, and Cookie Competitions. Those who compete in the Professional categories of these competitions can also enter to qualify to be the USA representative to compete for the FIPGC Cake Designers World Championship in Milan, Italy, in October of 2019.
This international competition is among the most prestigious in the cake world. Held at HostMilano every two years, 16 countries compete for the title of World Champion at the biggest event of this sector on an international level.
The FIPGC USA Division committee that selects the qualifiers is made up of Kathleen Lange, Bryson Perkins, Nicholas Lodge, Sidney Galpern, Michael Galpern, and Michelle Galpern. The first qualifying competition took place at That Takes the Cake in Austin, Texas, with Benny Rivera of City Cakes in New York City chosen as a finalist. The second qualifying competition took place at San Diego Cake Show in Southern California. Wing Yee Au of Camarillo, California showcased her skills to earn the next spot.
After the third qualifying competition takes place at SoFlo Cake and Candy Expo, the competition finals will be held in November at The Ultimate Sugar Show in Atlanta, Georgia. There, the USA representative for the FIPGC Cake Designers World Championship will be announced.
Registration for the SoFlo Cake and Candy Expo competitions ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday April 20. There will be many talented artists present at the show, so this competition should be exciting for all those in attendance.
