The IDDBA Cake Decorating Challenge will be celebrating its 25th anniversary at IDDBA 20. For 25 years, the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) has seen 75 retail cake decorators compete with pride and passion as they display their creative skill sets.
Next year’s event will take place during IDDBA 20 in Indianapolis, Indiana, from May 31 to June 2. Participants compete in a three-day contest where they craft and decorate a variety of specialty cakes ranging in size, theme, and shape.
This challenge is open to supermarket decorators. Contestants will be chosen based on the quality of their portfolio submitted. The selection committee judges the portfolio based on use of color and consistency, creativity, and the variety of technique.
The deadline for the portfolio and entry form to be received by the IDDBA is Friday, Jan. 10, 2020. Contestants will be informed by the end of March if chosen.
During the three-day event, participants will demonstrate their skills and wow attendees and judges by filling a bakery case, making tiered special occasion cakes, creating their own unique flavor profile for a cake that will be tasted, and designing a themed sheet cake.
They will compete for first, second, and third place trophies. Not only will participants gain recognition for themselves and their store, but they’ll further advance their skills and build a network, uncover more potential, and discover cutting-edge trends and techniques to bring back to their store. Read the guidelines and submit your entry form for the opportunity to compete in Indianapolis.
