From hometown Zenner's brats to Thai Curry, Centerplate, the nation's largest hospitality partner to North America's premier convention centers, sports stadiums and entertainment venues, announced a bold, new menu for the Portland Timbers 2012 soccer season at JELD-WEN Field. The menu pairs new, international flavors alongside local Portland favorites, including locally-sourced, free-range and hormone-free meats.
This season Centerplate was tasked with developing a unique item that could be featured prominently throughout the stadium as a Timbers signature item. Centerplate created a savory "Timber Pie" in partnership with Pacific Coast Pie Co., a local bakery, using only locally produced cheese, butter, and vegetables, grass fed-beef, free-range chicken, and pasture raised lamb. Hand pies are very popular soccer match food in Europe and Australia. Centerplate sought to ensure the pies were made from local ingredients that Portlanders could really stand behind.
"We are proud to serve Portland Timbers' Fans," said Ben Forsythe, Centerplate's General Manager responsible for the field. "Besides traditional stadium fare, we will also be offering a variety of foods not generally associated with sporting experiences. For example, we will serve Pho', a Vietnamese noodle soup popular in Portland, from a custom-designed cart. Our 2012 menu enhancements are designed specifically to delight Timbers fans and will truly add to their enjoyment of game day."
The second signature item Centerplate created is the "Timber Brat". A local Zenner's quarter pound bratwurst wrapped in Zenner's bacon, served on a local Franz bakery soft pretzel bun and topped off with local Widmer beer braised onions.
In addition to the two new signature items, Centerplate is also proud to announce several new food carts this season. The portable food carts offer specialty items from around the globe. The Wok About cart features yakisoba noodles and Pho', the Thai Curry Cart features authentic yellow curry with chicken or tofu over jasmine rice, Mexican carts feature burritos and specialty nachos, and Bob's BBQ carts serve the classic favorites; pulled pork and chicken, and even a barbeque tofu sandwich.
