Get to know Jenny Lamble and Be Happy Pie Company more below.
How many years have you been in business?
Be Happy Pie Company: Almost eight years... six years in our store front.
What made you want to get into the baking industry/why are you passionate about baking?
I was working as a high school counselor, and we started doing active shooter training. This made me rethink my career path. I have always loved baking... you could say my Easy Bake Oven hooked me as a kid. Baking is a creative and therapeutic outlet for me. I have been very fortunate to turn a beloved hobby into a profession. Everyone celebrates around food, especially desserts, and it is the best feeling knowing we've made someone happy with one of our desserts!
What are your top-selling products/what product do you consider to be your specialty?
Our top selling products are our sweet pies and our take and bake chicken pot pies are fantastic! We also do a pie bite that is very popular.
How has your RBA membership made a difference in your business?
It has been a fabulous resource to connect with industry leaders. It has also provided valuable support in so many areas. I am so thankful for RBA! Attending IBIE the past two sessions has been wonderful as well.
What have you learned from customers over the years?
Customers just want to be heard and they are just like me with hopes, dreams, struggles, etc. I love baking for our customers!
What are your plans for the bakery in the coming years (expansion, digital, new offerings, etc.)?
We are looking at a second location in Evansville, Indiana as well as franchising nationwide.
What do you look for when hiring staff?
People who smile and have a positive vibe and of course are competent in the kitchen.
What would you have done differently in starting your business/what do you wish you could tell your past self when starting your business?
I would have rented a bigger space to start. It's been a fun journey!
