The preliminary national average price received by farmers for all wheat in October was $8.37 per bu, up 10c from $8.27 in September and up $1.10 from $7.27 in October 2011, the US Department of Agriculture said in its latest Agricultural Prices report.
The average price paid for winter wheat in October was $8.31 per bu, up 6c from $8.25 in September and up $1.78 from $6.53 in October 2011. The average price paid for durum was $7.70 per bu, down 4c from September and down $1.90 from $9.60 in October 2011. Spring wheat other than durum averaged $8.58 per bu, up 20c from $8.38 in September and up 39c from $8.19 in October 2011.
The average price paid for all rice was $15 a cwt, up 70c from $14.30 in September and up 30c from $14.70 in October 2011.
The October index of prices received by farmers for food grains was 267 compared with the 1990-92 base of 100, up slightly from 266 in September and up 13% from 237 in October 2011.
The October index of feed grains was 299, up 2% from 292 in September and up 20% from 250 in October 2011.
The average price paid to farmers for corn was $6.95 a bu, up 6c from $6.89 in September and up $1.22 from $5.73 in October 2011. Farmers received an average of $11.90 a cwt for grain sorghum in October, up 40c from $11.50 in September and up $1.20 from $10.70 in October 2011. The average price paid for oats in October was $3.75 a bu, down 1c from September but up 6c from October 2011.
The index of October prices received for oilseeds was 247, up 3% from 240 in September and up 19% from 207 in October 2011. Farmers received an average of $14.20 a bu for soybeans in October, down 10c from $14.30 in September but up $2.40 from $11.80 in October 2011.
The October index for dairy products was 162, up 8% from 150 in September and up 6% from 153 in October 2011. The average price paid for all milk in October was $21.10 a cwt, up $1.50 from $19.60 in September and up $1.10 from $20 in October 2011.
The October poultry and egg index was 164, down 2% from 168 in September but up 10% from 149 in October 2011. The average price paid to farmers for all eggs in October was $1.03 a dozen, down 20c from $1.23 in September but up 1c from October 2011.
