Dunkin’ Donuts has signed a multi-unit store development agreement with a new franchise group, JP Foods, L.L.C., to develop a dozen new restaurants throughout Memphis, Tenn. The first restaurant is expected to open in 2015 and the remainder by 2020.
“We are excited to continue to expand Dunkin’ Donuts’ presence throughout Memphis and play an important role in the daily lives of people who live, work and visit here,” said Peter Garner, Dunkin’ Donuts franchisee. “We have a passion and loyalty for the brand and look forward to the opening of our Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the years to come.”
Dunkin’ said the agreement effectively means the Memphis market is “sold out,” though opportunities still remain throughout Tennessee in Nashville and Knoxville.
Meanwhile, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts Corp. said it is entering Alaska by signing an agreement with North to Alaska, L.L.C. for the development of four Krispy Kreme shops in Anchorage and the Matanuska Valley over the next three years. Krispy Kreme has spent much of the past year announcing development plans in international markets.
“We are delighted to welcome our newest domestic franchise partner,” said Patricia Perry, vice-president of domestic franchise development at Krispy Kreme. “Jack Lewis and the principals of North to Alaska have amassed more than 25 years of successful restaurant experience. They possess a thorough knowledge of the Alaskan marketplace and culture, and are committed both to growing with us and sharing the joy of Krispy Kreme with Alaskan donut and coffee fans.”
Krispy Kreme currently has more than 240 shops in the United States, of which approximately 150 are franchised. Additionally, the company has more than 540 locations in 22 countries outside the United States, all of which are franchised.
