A new kind of specialty bakery is coming to Jacksonville, FL, according to the Jacksonville Business Journal.

With more than 50 locations nationwide, Woof Gang Bakery, a gourmet dog bakery and shop based in Orlando, is quickly becoming a leader in the pet franchise industry.

The bakery will open its doors in Harbor Village at San Pablo. The 1,568-square-foot storefront, in The Fresh Market-anchored shopping center on Atlantic Boulevard, will be the company's first location in Jacksonville.

Jody Berk, the owner of the local franchise, said Jacksonville was the perfect destination for the shop due to the large number of pet owners in the area.

"It seemed like Jacksonville was in need of a high-end pet supply and grooming shop," he said.

The store's opening speaks volumes to the increase in demand for specialized diets for domestic animals, Woof Gang President Paul Allen said.

Over the years, a variety of new pet services has surfaced among the retail industry as more owners embrace the "pet parenting" attitude, Allen said.

"Specialty pet food marketing is the fastest-growing segment of the pet food industry," Berk said. "People are more food-conscious nowadays, and more want their animals to eat healthier, too," he said.
