Welcome to the emerging age of fresh bakery products – produced by retailers – being delivered right to the doorsteps of consumers across the nation.
Amazon.com, Inc. announced its Prime Now service, the company’s one-hour delivery service, will offer superfast delivery from local stores in Chicago in addition to the tens of thousands of items offered by Amazon. In Chicago, customers can now purchase baked goods and other foods from Plum Market, Sprinkles Cupcakes and My Fit Foods through the Prime Now app.
“We know Plum Market guests will love getting their favorite foods and brands through Amazon’s Prime Now delivery service,” says Plum Market chief executive officer and founder Matt Jonna. “As guests celebrate this holiday season, they will be able to have access to the very best selection of all natural, organic, local, and specialty items in a full-service shopping experience without having to leave the warmth of their own home.”
“Prime Now has been so popular with Chicago Prime members that we are excited to expand our superfast delivery benefits to include groceries and treats from favorite local stores Plum Market, Sprinkles Cupcakes, and My Fit Foods,” says Stephenie Landry, director of Prime Now. “There are times when you can’t make it to the store and there are times when you simply don’t want to go, especially now as customers are busy preparing for the holidays.”
To purchase from local stores, customers will use the Prime Now app, available on iOS and Android devices. Prime Now is currently available in over 20 cities across the country, including Atlanta, Baltimore, Brooklyn, Dallas, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Miami, Portland, and San Diego. Prime members get two-hour delivery for free and one-hour delivery is available for $7.99.
Tens of millions of members around the world already enjoy Prime. In the US, prime membership includes unlimited Free Two-Day Shipping on more than 20 million items; instant streaming of tens of thousands of movies and TV episodes through Prime Instant Video; over a million songs, more than one thousand playlists, and hundreds of stations through Prime Music; free unlimited photo storage through Amazon’s Cloud Drive; early access to select Lightning Deals, and access to over 800,000 books to borrow through the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library.
“In the year since we first launched Prime Now for customers in Manhattan, we’ve grown rapidly to more than 20 metropolitan areas across the U.S. and we are excited to continue to expand our offerings whether that’s adding beer, wine and spirits in Manhattan starting today or continuing to increase the number of local stores and restaurants in the service,” says Landry. “This holiday, we’ve also added thousands of products to Prime Now and we’ll be delivering up until midnight on Dec. 24—we are a procrastinator’s dream, offering tens of thousands of items that can be delivered right to your door in an hour or less.”
DoorDash Arrives in Bakery
Dunkin’ Donuts recently announced two programs that will make it even easier and more convenient for people to run on Dunkin’ from morning to night. Dunkin’ Donuts has started testing mobile On-the-Go Ordering in Portland, Maine and Dunkin’ Delivery in Dallas, Texas. In the coming weeks, Dunkin’ Delivery will also be available through DoorDash in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.
“Whether it be coffee and a breakfast sandwich to start your day, or a latte and donut for an afternoon pick-me-up, Dunkin’ Donuts is the perfect delivery partner for DoorDash,” says Tony Xu, chief executive officer of DoorDash. “Families around the country already know that DoorDash is the best way to get your favorite food delivered directly to your door. As DoorDash continues to expand to more markets, we’re excited to be adding Dunkin’ Donuts to our growing roster of top tier national partners.”
In Portland, Maine, members of the DD Perks Rewards Program can get their favorite Dunkin’ Donuts menu items even faster when they download the new Dunkin’ Donuts On-the-Go Ordering app DD On-the-Go Ordering Portland, which enables guests to order in advance using their mobile phone, skip the line and go straight to pick up when they get inside the store. Guests can also pick up their mobile order at the drive-thru. Guests can place a mobile order up to 24 hours in advance, then simply confirm via the app when they are at the selected restaurant and ready to pick up their order.
With Dunkin’ Delivery, Dallas-area residents use on-demand delivery service DoorDash to order their favorite Dunkin’ Donuts products with the click of a button, without leaving home or work. From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., people can select and purchase their favorite Dunkin’ Donuts menu items, including a wide array of signature coffee, donuts, sandwiches and more, and have the products delivered in less than forty five minutes. In the coming weeks, Dunkin’ Donuts will also partner with DoorDash to offer delivery service in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington D.C.
Scott Hudler, Dunkin’ Donuts’ vice president of Global Consumer Engagement, points out that guests appreciate access to a full menu available all day, “and we are committed to seeking new ways to make our products even more accessible to our guests throughout the day. Both Dunkin’ Delivery and On-the-Go Ordering offer people more convenient ways to enjoy our wide array of food and beverages. The ability to skip the line to order your favorite coffee, donut or sandwich any time of day, or to have Dunkin’ items delivered directly to you are two things that our guests have been requesting for some time.”
