Jafflz, a convenient gourmet food concept based on the classic South African toasted "jaffle" pocket sandwich, has expanded into the wholesale market. Utah’s Park City Mountain, the largest ski resort in the United States, is its first wholesale partner, starting with the 2015-16 ski season.
CEO and founder Meryl van de Merwe, born and raised in South Africa, travelled the world as a private chef, eventually residing full-time in Park City, Utah. Having worked as a private chef for Kevin Plank, CEO and founder of Under Armour, and his family in Park City, Meryl introduced Kevin and his family to jaffles. Recognizing the scalable opportunity to bring nutritious, wholesome and convenient cuisine to today's discerning consumers, Plank Industries became a partner in Jafflz.
Jafflz recent USDA and FDA approvals were timed to coincide with the opening of two on- mountain dining locations where Jafflz will be offered: The Shack, at the Three Kings lift, and The Red Pine Outpost, adjacent to the newly renovated Red Pine Lodge.
Jafflz offers toasted pocket sandwiches stuffed with sweet or savory fillings and toasted in "Jaffle irons" (a type of closed round metal skillet) over a grill. The resulting sandwich is a sealed pocket with a melted and cooked center.
Made with all natural ingredients, without hormones or antibiotics, the menu includes the Ba-bootie Jaffle (signature South African lamb curry); classic favorites such as BBQ Joe Jaffle (beef sloppy joe); Lil'Mac Jaffle (mac and cheese); Goa Jaffle (Vegan Indian Curry) and sweets, including Sky High Apple Pie Jaffle and S'mores Jaffle.
