Janet Fu McDevitt is an accomplished pastry chef who has worked for top hotels and lodges in Washington state.

She also happens to be a runner who competes in 5K and 10K races. In fact, she won the age 40-44 division of the USA Track & Field Masters 5K Cross Country Championships last year.

McDevitt uses these two skills to fuel her life. Her motto, ‘Run. And eat pastry’ reflects that. She runs a blog called “Masters Mama” in which she discusses her duel passions.

Throughout her baking career, “I always kind of ran to keep in shape,” McDevitt says. She enjoyed it, but it wasn’t until her youngest child started school that she found “some space to have a life again” and returned to serious training after competing in both high school and college.

She now works part time baking pastries at Metro Market Catering, and says that she plans on attempting to qualify for a Masters exhibition race in July for the 2016 Olympic team trials, a 1,500-meter run.

In a perfectly worded summary, McDevitt states, “I feel good when I run, and so I guess the races are icing on the cake.”
