Food carts are becoming all the rage in the food world, and Cake & Shake is putting a sweet spin on this hot new trend with the introduction of a cupcake and milk shake food cart in Greenwich Village in New York City’s Washington Square Park.
Gina Ojile, owner of Cake & Shake, is selling $3 gourmet cupcakes and $5 milk shakes made with real fruit out of the solar-powered food cart, which is parked on the street next to Washington Square Park.
The first Cake & Shake cart opened earlier this year, and there are plans for a second next to New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art.
The top-selling cupcake so far is Cup ‘O Joe, which is made with chocolate cake, dark chocolate mousse, chocolate mocha buttercream and bittersweet chocolate shavings. There are nearly two dozen cupcake varieties, including other fun flavors like the Whatchamacallit, made with milk chocolate cake, caramel mousse and nougat frosting.
Milk shakes come in eight flavors, including the top-selling Salted Caramel Shake. And for the dog lover in us all, there are Pup Cakes, an all natural dog treat that sells for $3 apiece.
