FAB is a major project in the works from Randi Weinstein, the director of events for Charleston Wine + Food, a popular annual food festival. This two-day educational conference is geared towards women in the food industry, hosted by women in the industry.
Taking place June 11-13, 2017, this conference will feature some major names in the industry such as James Beard Award-winner and Relais & Châteaux Grand Chef Barbara Lynch, founder and CEO of Culinary Agents (a professional networking and job matching website designed for current and aspiring professionals in the food, beverage, and hospitality industry) Alice Cheng, Editor in Chief of the food publication Eater Amanda Kludt, and several other high profiles speakers.
The conference will have two educational sessions, according to Eater: FAB 101, the basic course, outlines everything from drafting a business plan to hiring a diverse array of candidates to dealing with food waste to expansion. FAB 202, which is tailored more to the already-operating businessperson, will get into topics like media outreach, labor laws, and mentorship.
Weinstein describes the event as an opportunity for women gain skills and knowledge they’ll use in their careers and in life. “It covers the pertinent topics starting with the financials of the business and then going into HR and branding. It's more of the unsexy things that it takes to sustain your business and open your business, and the knowledge that you need,” she says.
The sessions are relatively affordable for attendees. FAB 101 will cost $500 per person and include the opportunity to network over coffees or lunches with speakers and presenters. FAB 202 will cost $700 per person and covers topics more applicable to owners of businesses that are up and running.
Tickets for the conference will be available starting Monday, January 16. Learn more about the conference at its website.
