Los Angeles-based Mr. Holmes Bakehouse sells a product that has made headlines in recent years. Combining two items that you never would have guessed would be put together, the bakery has created what it calls the Cali Croissant – a croissant filled with sushi.

The $5 Cali Croissant consists of a smoked salmon, nori (seaweed), ginger and wasabi sushi roll inside a standard croissant, and it comes with sauce for dipping.

For many, this doesn’t seem to be a popular combination. Outlets such as the British newspaper Metro have decried the idea of it, claiming that LA has lost its mind.

However, the dish has proved to be a hit with many on social media and with real life customers. The Cali Croissant started in San Francisco, where it took off, and it has now made its way to the Los Angeles location.  This looks to be one of those foods that needs to be tasted to be believed.

Given its track record with croissant hybrids in the past, Mr. Holmes Bakehouse is given the benefit of the doubt. It also specializes in items such as the cruffin (croissant muffin) and churro croissants, which are filled with dulce de leche and cinnamon sugar.
