Candace Nelson is famous for her role on Food Network’s Cupcake Wars, a reality show which invites bakers from all over the country to wage “war” in a multi-round cupcake competition, usually centered around a particular theme.
Nelson also happens to be the owner of Sprinkles Cupcakes, considered to be one of the first cupcake bakeries. Sprinkles has 17 locations all over the U.S. and continues to branch out. In March of 2012, Sprinkles launched its first cupcake ATM in Beverly Hills, California. The concept was that the ATM would dispense cupcakes and doggie cupcakes 24 hours a day and be continuously restocked throughout the day with freshly baked cupcakes, holding several hundred at a time.
Sprinkles found great success with these cupcake ATM’s, and now has 14 of them. The latest recently opened along with a new bakery in Austin, Texas. This new ATM will hold 800 cupcakes at one time, and any unsold goods from a particular day will be given to food banks.
The Austin location will sell 50 flavors of cupcakes, as well as ice cream, cookies, sweet cold concoctions like cupcake sundaes and shakes, red velvet waffle cones, cupcake ice cream sandwiches, floats, and the popular Sprinkles shot, which comes with a tiny ice cream within a shot of espresso.
