The deadline for entering the Pillsbury Plus Creative Decorating Competition by portfolio is June 30, 2010. This year's competition will be held at IBIE in Las Vegas on September 26-29. Contestants will compete for over $14,000 in cash prizes in five categories and the overall Pillsbury Plus Grand Championship.
Contestants in this year’s Creative Decorating Competition, to be held at the International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE), will be competing over 3 days. Categories include wedding cake, rolled fondant, sculpted, creative design and floral design.
Unlike previous years that allowed the use of molds, impression mats and a Somerset fondant roller for sculpted and wedding cakes only, this year’s rules open up the use of equipment for all five categories.
Cake decorators will have two ways of entering this year’s competition—either through local contests sponsored by RBA affiliates or entering by portfolio if they are in an area the does not have a state or regional competition.
The highest scoring individual, as determined by a panel of judges, will be awarded the coveted Pillsbury Baker's Plus Grand Champion Trophy, sponsored by General Mills. Gold, silver, and bronze medals along with cash prizes will also be awarded for the highest three scores in each category.
Local RBA affiliates have been holding contests since January to pick contestants but cake decorators in areas not represented by a local affiliate can still enter by portfolio. Up to five contestants will chosen from portfolio entries. Applications can be found at http://www.ibie2010.com/CompetitorApplicationForm2010.pdf.
Entries must be postmarked by June 30, 2010.
All contestants will be notified and receive contest materials and hotel information by July 15. All contestants receive 4 nights’ hotel accommodations and tickets to the awards reception. Sponsors of this year's competition include General Mills, Bakery Crafts, Pfeil & Holing, Chefmaster and Satin Fine Foods.
